In the rapidly evolving world of AI chatbots, three major players - OpenAI, Microsoft's Copilot, and Google's Bard - are making significant strides with their latest updates. These advancements mark a new era in AI chat technology, with each tech giant enhancing the capabilities and performance of their AI tools.

OpenAI's GPT-4 Turbo

OpenAI has recently launched GPT-4 Turbo, its latest generation model. GPT-4 Turbo is more capable, has an updated knowledge cutoff of April 2023, and introduces a 128k context window, equivalent to 300 pages of text in a single prompt. This model is also 3X cheaper for input tokens and 2X cheaper for output tokens compared to the original GPT-4 model.

Microsoft's Copilot

Microsoft's AI chatbot, Copilot, is set to receive a significant upgrade with the integration of OpenAI's latest model, GPT-4 Turbo. This integration will extend the chatbot's capabilities by adding knowledge of world events up to April 2023 and a larger 128k context window that allows it to fit more than 300 pages of text in a single prompt.

In addition to the GPT-4 Turbo integration, Copilot will also feature an updated version of DALL-E 3. This update will allow for the generation of images that are higher quality and more accurate. Users can start taking advantage of this now by visiting bing.com/create or using Copilot.

Furthermore, Microsoft is optimizing multi-modal prompts on Copilot by combining GPT-4 with Bing image search and web search data. This will enhance the chatbot's ability to understand image queries. This new capability will be available soon.

Google's Bard

Google's AI chatbot, Bard, has been steadily gaining new features and capabilities, but its latest upgrade might just be its most significant yet. As of today, Bard is now powered by Google's new Gemini model for English-speaking users in 170 countries. This integration is expected to match and even exceed the capabilities of OpenAI's tech in several ways.

Bard is currently running on Gemini Pro, the middle tier of the Gemini series. Gemini Pro is designed to be the 'Goldilocks' version of the model: fast and efficient while still as capable as possible. According to Sissie Hsiao, who runs Bard and Assistant at Google, Gemini represents the "biggest and best upgrade yet" for Bard.

However, Bard's evolution doesn't stop there. Google is planning to launch a preview of "Bard Advanced," powered by Gemini Ultra, next year. Gemini Ultra is the most powerful and capable version of Google's new large language model and is also the multimodal version of the model, meaning it can accept and create images, audio, and video in addition to just text.

The Competitive Landscape

These advancements from OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google signify a new era in the evolution of AI chatbots. Both Copilot and Bard are set to offer enhanced capabilities and performance, providing users with more powerful AI assistant tools. Alex Kantrowitz, a technology journalist, stated that "At work, people will have a real incentive to learn how to use these products, figure out their prompts, and master their intricacies, especially given that their next promotion, their raise, or their job itself might depend on it".
