Busan to Establish "Busan Content Biztown" for Content Ecosystem and Youth Employment

Busan, South Korea - The city of Busan has announced plans to establish "Busan Content Biztown" (Content Business Support Center) to foster a content ecosystem and create jobs for young people.

In March, the city and Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency secured KRW 4.2 billion in government funding after being selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's regional content support center project.

Under this initiative, Busan plans to lease and remodel a building in Yangjeong-dong, Busanjin-gu District, which is owned by Dongseo University's social education center. The "Busan Content Biztown" is scheduled to open by the end of this year, with a total project cost of KRW 14 billion, including KRW 7 billion in government funds, to be invested by 2027.

Spanning a floor area of 7,012 square meters and eight stories, "Busan Content Biztown" will consist of company offices, multipurpose cultural spaces, conference and training rooms, and exhibition areas. In particular, the 25 offices spread across five floors will accommodate businesses of various sizes and characteristics, offering growth potential for middle-sized enterprises, promising local content companies, and businesses outside the region.

Since the opening of the Busan Cultural Content Complex (located in Centum City) in 2012, the city has supported businesses by providing office spaces, focusing on the content industry, which is growing faster and favored more by the younger generation compared to other industries. The decision to establish "Busan Content Biztown" was based on a policy assessment that recognized the need for customized support at various stages to help companies transition through market changes and grow into strong small and global enterprises.

The city plans to build a support system for content companies at various stages of creation, entrepreneurship, and growth by establishing "Busan Content Biztown" alongside the Busan Content Korea Lab and Busan Cultural Content Complex. Notably, "Busan Content Biztown" is expected to contribute to the growth of local content industries and the creation of youth-favored jobs through intellectual property (IP) development support, content development workforce training, job support in collaboration with related organizations and local universities, and mentor-company matching projects.

Mayor Park Heong-joon said, "Busan has established its brand as a city of gaming and film, and various content companies in gaming, webtoon, drama, animation, and publishing are growing based on this foundation." He added, "We expect to foster star companies that can lead K-content through the support of competitive content companies with Busan Content Biztown."
