Busan Hosts International Student Job Fair

Busan, South Korea—In a concerted effort to retain foreign talent and address regional challenges, Busan City will host the 2024 Busan International Student Job Fair tomorrow, September 27, at Kyungsung University's Geonhak Memorial Hall. The event aims to connect foreign students with local businesses, fostering employment opportunities and encouraging long-term settlement in the region.

Approximately 500 foreign students and recent graduates are expected to attend the fair, which will feature 20 local companies from sectors including manufacturing, retail, and hospitality. The event provides a platform for students to engage directly with employers seeking skilled professionals to fill critical roles.

"The job fair represents more than just recruitment; it's a strategic initiative to integrate foreign talent into our local industries," said an official from Busan City. "By offering these students opportunities to build their careers here, we anticipate addressing pressing regional issues like population decline and labor shortages, while enriching our community with diverse perspectives."

The job fair is a collaborative endeavor hosted by Busan Metropolitan City, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. Organized by Kyungsung University, the National Research Foundation of Korea, the Busan Regional Office of SMEs and Startups, and the Small & Medium Business Corporation, the event underscores the collective commitment to regional innovation and growth.

Busan is one of five regions selected for the Ministry of Education's Regional Innovation System & Education (RISE) pilot program, highlighting its role in pioneering strategies for local development.

Participants will have access to a range of services designed to facilitate their transition from academia to the workforce. On-site recruitment booths will allow for immediate interviews, while workshops on resume writing and self-introduction letters aim to equip students with essential job-seeking skills. Successful foreign alumni will share their experiences in special lectures, offering insights and encouragement to attendees.

Understanding the complexities of employment visas, the fair will offer guidance on obtaining the E-7 (Specialty Occupation) and F-2-R (Regional Specialized Outstanding Talent) visas. Representatives from the Busan Immigration Office and the Busan Foundation for International Cooperation will be on hand to provide personalized consultations, helping students navigate legal requirements.
