Busan City Launches Digital Convergence Center to Foster Digital Talent and Support Industry Transformation

Busan City has been selected for the "K-Digital Platform Project" by the Ministry of Employment and Labor. The project includes an investment of up to 3 billion won (about $2.5 million US dollars) over the next five years to create a Digital Convergence Training Center in the city. The goal is to foster digital talent and support the development of digital capabilities, including training professionals in new digital technologies and providing education for residents and employees to adapt to changes in the industrial environment due to digital transformation.

Last year, Busan City introduced the "Busan Digital Innovation Academy (BDIA)" project to train numerous information and communication technology (ICT) professionals. This year, the city is teaming up with the "Green Computer Academy Busan," a local institution specializing in IT education, to establish the Digital Convergence Center in the Seomyeon area of Busanjin-gu. The center, scheduled to open in May, will be conveniently located in the central region, offering accessibility and a conducive environment for learning and development.

Starting in May, the Digital Convergence Center in the Seomyeon area will offer several digital technology training courses with a recruitment focus, including the "K-Digital Training" full-stack developer course, which the "Green Computer Academy Busan" has previously provided for the Ministry of Employment and Labor's digital practice talent training. Additionally, the training center will offer various programs, such as digital field lectures and seminars for residents and company employees.

Lee Jun-seung, who heads Busan City's Digital Economy Innovation Office, stated that the demand for software (SW) professionals is continuously increasing due to the rapid growth of new industries in the digital era. He also emphasized the city's commitment to supporting local youth in becoming skilled professionals through a comprehensive digital education system that will ultimately lead to employment opportunities.
