BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA— In a groundbreaking development for the gaming and content industry, Busan City has teamed up with Busan Metropolitan Corporation to kick off the construction of a state-of-the-art Game and Content Complex in the Centum City General Industrial Complex, Haeundae-gu District.
Employing the Public Property Trust Development Method, this project represents a significant partnership between public and private sectors. The Busan Metropolitan Corporation will oversee the funding and development, with the costs borne during construction. Upon completion, the ownership of the complex will transition to the local government, ensuring financial equity and leveraging private sector efficiency. This model is a first for Busan, setting a precedent for future sustainable and expertly managed developments.
A New Chapter for Busan’s Gaming and Content Industry
The complex, covering a land area of 3,121 square meters and featuring 18 floors above ground and 3 below, will have a total floor area of 26,658.31 square meters. With an investment of 78 billion won, excluding land costs and price adjustments, it is poised to become a central hub for gaming and content businesses. The complex will include a Global Game Center, a Content Academy, and various corporate residency spaces, all aimed at nurturing startups, supporting business growth, and enhancing the competitiveness of the regional game content industry.
The project’s momentum builds following the Busan City Council’s endorsement of the ‘Busan Metropolitan Corporation Game Complex Development Participation Proposal’ on December 14. Plans are underway to initiate an architectural design competition next year.
Kim Yong-hak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, shared his enthusiasm: “The Game and Content Complex will be a catalyst to elevate Busan’s gaming culture and content industry. We are committed to collaborating with Busan City and other relevant organizations to ensure efficient progress of this pivotal project.”
Mayor Park Heong-joon also conveyed his dedication to the project, focusing on empowering local gaming content enterprises and drawing external investments. “Our collaboration with Busan Metropolitan Corporation marks a significant stride toward an innovative Busan. We’re committed to facilitating rapid development through effective communication among all stakeholders,” he stated.
By providing advanced facilities and fostering a supportive business environment, the city is positioning itself as a leader in the global gaming and content sectors. This project is expected to spark innovation, attract external businesses, and strengthen the local gaming and content industries, ushering in a new era of technological and economic growth in Busan.
