Busan, South Korea – The Busan Metropolitan City has announced a public consultation meeting on December 28, in the Gangseo District Office’s Community Hall. This meeting will discuss the construction plans for the Jangnakdaegyo Bridge and Eomgungdaegyo Bridge, key components in the city’s initiative to develop an eco-friendly transportation infrastructure.

These bridges are crucial to the Eco Delta City (EDC) project, a large-scale urban development aimed at balancing ecological preservation and urban growth. The Jangnakdaegyo Bridge, connecting the northern entrance to the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone (BJFEZ), and the Eomgungdaegyo Bridge, a part of the third metropolitan area traffic congestion road project, are set to address the increasing traffic demands while mitigating environmental impact.

The city government has emphasized that the bridges will be built with significant considerations for environmental sustainability. This includes plans for alternative habitats for migratory birds, as the construction sites overlap with key bird migration areas along the Nakdonggang River. The public consultation meeting will bring together stakeholders, including local residents, environmental groups, and relevant government agencies, to discuss the detailed plans and address any concerns.

The construction of both bridges is part of a broader strategy to improve transportation links and reduce traffic congestion across the Nakdonggang River crossings. The Jangnakdaegyo Bridge project involves a 1.5 km road with six lanes, while the Eomgungdaegyo Bridge spans 3.0 km with similar traffic capacity. Both projects, initiated in 2018, are expected to conclude by 2029.

The Busan Metropolitan City has allocated substantial funds for these projects, with the Jangnakdaegyo Bridge costing approximately 132.9 billion won and the Eomgung Bridge estimated at 345.5 billion won. These investments underline the city’s commitment to developing infrastructure that aligns with environmental sustainability and urban development needs.

The upcoming public consultation meeting marks a significant step in ensuring community engagement and transparency in the city’s ambitious infrastructure projects. City officials urge residents to participate in the meeting to share their opinions and contribute to the environmentally-conscious development of Busan.
