In an innovative fusion of sports and tourism, Busan City is gearing up to host the “2023 Skate Night Busan,” an event poised to transform the city into a nocturnal playground for skateboarding aficionados and novices alike. The event, scheduled for tomorrow from 9 AM to 9 PM, is a collaborative endeavor involving the Korea Tourism Organization and Busan Tourism Organization, as announced by city officials.
As part of a specialized project to boost nighttime tourism, the Busan Cinema Center’s outdoor plaza, already a hotspot for skateboard enthusiasts, will be transformed into a vibrant competitive arena. The city aims to make skateboarding accessible to all citizens by hosting contests in various categories such as street, mini ramp, and best trick, segmented by general participants, youth, and juniors.
Winners of the skateboarding contest will be honored with awards, including the Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City Award and the Busan Tourism Organization Award. The event is expected to offer much more than skateboarding; it promises a plethora of activities that could spark new interests among the citizens.
The day’s lineup is packed with one-day classes, free park operations, food trucks, merchandise booths, and a hip-hop afterparty performance. These offerings ensure that not only skateboarders but also general citizens and tourists can discover and enjoy the culture of skateboarding. The non-skaters aren’t left out either, with various food trucks and merchandise booths set up to provide an inclusive experience, culminating in a hip-hop party that aims to deliver a fun and glamorous night for everyone.
The Director of Busan’s Tourism & MICE Industry Bureau, stated, “The outdoor plaza of the Busan Cinema Center is already a beloved spot among the boarding community. We aim to share the unique and cool vibe of skateboarding with a wider audience, and through this, position Busan as an exciting and dynamic destination for nighttime tourism to both Gen Z and Alpha generations.”
Furthermore, in anticipation of the main event, the venue will host a Free Day on November 10th, where the facilities set up for “Skate Night 2023” will be open for public enjoyment from 10 AM to 6 PM, inviting everyone to bring their boards and indulge in the pre-event excitement.
