The Gwangandaegyo Bridge Unveils its Stunning Lighting Revamp

Busan, South Korea, is poised to introduce a new chapter for its renowned Gwangandaegyo Bridge, enhancing it as a major tourist attraction. The Busan Metropolitan City has announced a lighting ceremony for the bridge, scheduled for January 6, 2024. This event is the highlight of the "Seven Bridge Project," integral to Busan's initiative to evolve into an international tourism city.

The Gwangandaegyo Bridge, a 7.42 km sea-spanning marvel, is set to impress with upgraded landscape lighting and media content, representing an investment of approximately 7 billion won. Initiated in January 2020, this project is central to Busan's strategy to spotlight the bridge as a key feature of the city's night tourism. The enhancements include installing new lighting on the bridge's main cable, hanger ropes, and truss sections, increasing the lights' number and range of colors, and adding moving lights to bring a dynamic quality to the display.

The bridge will showcase 77 types of media content, tailored for various events, seasons, and occasions. These include signature contents that reflect the bridge's symbolism, structure, and integration, as well as real-time data artworks that meld daily data (like air quality and traffic volume) with art, and contents specially designed for different events and seasons.

The "Seven Bridge Project" aims to infuse aesthetic and playful elements into seven coastal bridges around Busan, including the Gwangandaegyo Bridge. This initiative seeks to highlight the unique beauty of Busan's bridges, connecting them with local tourism resources to stimulate the regional economy and create high-value tourist attractions.

Mayor Park Heong-joon expressed enthusiasm for the project, aligning with the vision of transforming Busan into a global hub city and a desirable place for residents and visitors. He emphasized the Gwangandaegyo Bridge's significance in this transformation, symbolizing the city's dynamic spirit and future aspirations.

The lighting ceremony is anticipated to be a significant event, with various dignitaries and over a hundred citizens attending to witness the project's achievements and the new lighting and media displays. This event is a symbol of Busan's infrastructural progress and a step towards becoming a leading global tourist destination.
