Museum of Contemporary Art Busan Launches Innovative Docent Program for Children

MCAB Introduces <Docent for Kids> to Engage Young Art Enthusiasts

Busan, South Korea - The Museum of Contemporary Art Busan (MCAB) has recently unveiled a groundbreaking new initiative aimed at fostering art appreciation among young audiences. Starting from March 18th and running until April 15th, the museum will offer a specialized <Docent for Kids> program every Saturday, tailored to engage and educate elementary school students visiting the museum.

The MCAB acknowledges that visitors of all ages, from infants to adults, experience art through their unique communication styles and interests. With this in mind, the <Docent for Kids> program is the first of its kind in 2023, focusing specifically on the communication needs and preferences of children.

In coordination with the "Postmodern Children" exhibition, the docent program is designed to inspire active participation and critical thinking among young visitors. The program's approach ensures that the terms and content discussed are accessible and appropriate for elementary school students.

Five docents, handpicked as Museum of Contemporary Art Busan Education Supporters, will facilitate the program. These docents will connect children's experiences with the exhibition, helping them actively understand the artworks through questions, storytelling, and activity sheets.

The five docents are expected to provide diverse perspectives on the exhibition, allowing children ample time to interact with the artworks at their own pace, rather than merely presenting information.

In addition to the "Postmodern Children" exhibition, the children's docents will lead various programs in collaboration with the upcoming "Postmodern Children" part 2 and "Singing Land," an ecologically-themed exhibition scheduled for the second half of 2023.

An official from the Museum of Contemporary Art Busan expressed their hopes for the program, stating, "Through this docent program, we hope that children growing up will perceive the museum as a fun and comfortable space and remember it as a valuable art experience."
