Busan Announces 12 New Locations for 'Deullaknallak' Children's Complex Culture Spaces

The city of Busan convened the "Busan Metropolitan City Children’s Complex Cultural Space Creation Committee" yesterday (August 23rd) and announced the selection of 12 additional sites for the 2023 Deullaknallak initiative.

  • What is Deullaknallak? Deullaknallak is a family-friendly space designed within a 15-minute living radius where children can enjoy book services, immersive digital content, media art, and more alongside their parents. It aims to boost children’s creativity and imagination. As of August this year, 25 of these spaces have been inaugurated, with construction ongoing for 39 more.
  • Selection Process and New Locations: In June 2023, the city completed an open call for new projects across various districts and counties. Following site visits and project selection reviews, the committee finalized the 12 new locations on August 23rd. These comprise 2 large sites (1,000㎡ or larger), 2 medium sites (330㎡ or larger), and 8 small sites (150㎡ or larger). The selected locations are spread across Seo-gu, Saha-gu, Geumjeong-gu, Busanjin-gu, and Gijang-gun.
  • Project Budget and Benefits: A total of 70 billion KRW (49 billion from the city and 21 billion from district/county budgets) will be invested in these new sites. Particularly, the selection of 9 sites in the Seo-gu and Saha-gu areas will allow children in these regions more convenient access to the Deullaknallak facilities.
  • Future Developments: Once the new locations are launched by 2024, there will be a total of 76 Deullaknallak spaces operational across Busan. Along with these, the city plans to enhance the user experience through various initiatives. For convenience, a comprehensive platform showcasing the locations of Deullaknallak spaces and the content they offer is slated for an October launch. The city also plans to expand the "Let’s Play with EBS" educational content, introduce digital signage, and develop specialized programs for Deullaknallak.
