Busan Achieves 6th Place in Asia in 2024 Global Liveability Index

Busan, South Korea - Busan has secured its position as the 6th most liveable city in Asia for the second consecutive year, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) 2024 Global Liveability Index. This prestigious ranking underscores Busan's continued efforts to enhance its urban environment and improve the quality of life for its residents.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) is renowned for its comprehensive analysis and annual publication of the Global Liveability Index. This index evaluates cities worldwide based on five key categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. The index aims to provide a holistic view of the living conditions in cities across the globe, helping policymakers and residents understand their city's strengths and areas for improvement.

In the 2024 report, Busan achieved an overall score of 87 points. This score reflects the city's consistent performance and its ability to maintain high standards across various sectors. Notably, Busan has managed to sustain its score from 2023, when it also ranked as the 6th most liveable city in Asia. This achievement highlights Busan's effective urban management and the successful implementation of policies aimed at improving liveability.

Busan's position in the 2024 Global Liveability Index places it among the top cities in Asia. The top five cities include Osaka, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Seoul, all known for their advanced infrastructure and high quality of life. Busan's ranking is particularly impressive given the rapid development and competitive nature of urban centers in Asia.

Globally, Vienna topped the list as the most liveable city for the third consecutive year, followed by Copenhagen and Zurich. These cities scored exceptionally well in stability, healthcare, education, and infrastructure, setting a high benchmark for others.

In addition to its performance in the Global Liveability Index, Busan has received accolades in other international evaluations. It ranked 27th in the Z/Yen Global Financial Centres Index, reflecting its growing influence in the financial sector. Furthermore, Busan was placed 14th in the World Smart Cities Index, showcasing its advancements in technology and smart city initiatives.

These rankings not only highlight Busan's strengths but also enhance its global reputation as a forward-thinking and innovative city. The city's strategic initiatives in urban planning and development continue to yield positive results, attracting both domestic and international attention.

Busan city officials have expressed pride in these achievements, attributing them to the collective efforts of the city's administration and residents. "This recognition is a testament to Busan's commitment to creating a global hub city where people aspire to live," said Mayor Park Heong-joon. "We will continue to leverage our natural beauty and warm hospitality to further enhance Busan's liveability and global standing."

Busan's 6th place ranking in the 2024 Global Liveability Index reaffirms its status as a leading city in Asia. This achievement, coupled with other international recognitions, highlights the city's ongoing efforts to improve urban living conditions and foster a high quality of life for its residents. As Busan continues to develop and innovate, its global reputation as a top-tier liveable city is set to grow even stronger.
