BTS's Jimin Donates ₩30 Million to Improve Elderly Housing in Busan

Busan, South Korea — Global superstar and BTS member Jimin has donated ₩30 million to support the "Busan Habitat Challenge," an initiative aimed at improving housing conditions for elderly residents in need. The donation ceremony was held on November 29 at Busan City Hall, with Jimin’s father attending on his behalf due to Jimin’s current military service.

The "Busan Habitat Challenge" is a community-driven project designed to remodel homes for vulnerable elderly individuals, ensuring they have safe and comfortable living spaces. This initiative comes at a critical time as Busan's senior population continues to grow, with many elderly residents living in housing that lacks accessibility or safety features.

Jimin’s generous contribution marks him as the third donor in the initiative and the first individual participant. Previous contributions included ₩90 million from KB Kookmin Bank and ₩200 million from the Dongil Corporation. His donation will be used to renovate the homes of elderly residents, enhancing their living conditions with senior-friendly modifications.

At the ceremony, Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon expressed gratitude for Jimin's impactful gesture. “We hope this donation inspires others to join the challenge, helping our seniors live safely and comfortably in their homes. This initiative embodies the spirit of community and care that defines Busan,” he said.

The Busan Habitat Challenge takes inspiration from the global "Ice Bucket Challenge," but with a focus on creating sustainable housing solutions. It invites local businesses, organizations, and individuals to participate in a relay of donations, aiming to build a strong network of support for the elderly population.

The project is especially crucial in light of recent data showing that while Busan’s senior population has increased rapidly, only 13.7% of homes are equipped with elderly-friendly features. Unsafe housing conditions for seniors can exacerbate physical and cognitive health challenges, ultimately increasing societal healthcare costs. Through the Habitat Challenge, Busan City hopes to foster a movement of care and awareness for its aging residents.

Jimin’s father, who attended the ceremony to deliver the donation, shared his pride in his son’s commitment to giving back to the community. “Jimin believes in using his platform and resources to support meaningful causes, and this initiative aligns perfectly with his values,” he said.

The donation has drawn attention from various community members and local organizations, highlighting the importance of collective efforts to address senior housing issues. Busan City officials emphasized that such contributions not only improve living conditions for vulnerable elderly residents but also foster a culture of compassion and responsibility within the community.

The funds from the Habitat Challenge are managed by the Busan Senior Welfare Center, which will oversee the remodeling projects. These renovations focus on creating safe and accessible living spaces tailored to the needs of elderly residents, ensuring they can age comfortably in their homes.

The Busan Habitat Challenge welcomes donations and volunteer support from all sectors of the community. Interested parties can contact the Busan Senior Welfare Center or visit their website to learn more about how to contribute.

As the first individual donor in the Habitat Challenge, Jimin’s involvement sets a precedent for other individuals and organizations to make a difference. His donation reflects not only his generosity but also the potential of collective action to create lasting, positive change in the lives of those who need it most.
