Busan, April 9, 2024 – The city of Busan has revealed the winning design for the upcoming Sasang Forest Experience Education Center, marking a significant milestone in the city’s commitment to sustainability and environmental education. The chosen design, proposed by LalaHoho Architects, promises to bring a dynamic and immersive nature experience to the heart of the city.

Following a rigorous selection process that commenced on March 18, the Architects emerged victorious among 18 contenders. Their design concept, which envisions a “Forest Experience Space within the City,” incorporates innovative strategies to blend indoor and outdoor educational spaces seamlessly. This approach garnered high praise for its creativity, practical application of wood construction, and sustainability.

Mayor Park in Busan, expressed enthusiasm for the project, which aims to complete by 2026. “The Sasang Forest Experience Education Center will not only serve as a beacon of our city’s dedication to green living but also as a vital educational resource for future generations,” he stated.

Funded jointly by the national government and the city, with a budget of 13 billion won, the project was selected as part of the Forestry Agency’s 2023 National Timber Construction Pilot Project.

In addition to the main building, the city plans to develop a comprehensive outdoor experience, including a sensory forest, exploration trails, and a playground, designed to complement the educational offerings of the center.

With the design phase expected to conclude in the first half of next year, construction is slated to begin shortly thereafter, ensuring the project’s timely completion by 2026. This ambitious project underscores Busan’s leadership in urban sustainability and education, setting a precedent for future green initiatives in cities worldwide.
