**Blue Food Tech” refers to the application of technology and innovation in the processing, production, and distribution of food derived from aquatic sources. It encompasses a wide range of food products sourced from both marine and freshwater environments, including fish, shellfish, and algae. The term “Blue Food” is often used in contrast to “Green Food,” which typically refers to agricultural or land-based food sources. The “Tech” part of “Blue Food Tech” involves various technological advancements and methodologies applied to enhance the sustainability, efficiency, and safety of aquatic food production.
Blue Food refers to food products sourced from aquatic environments. This concept extends beyond mere nutrition, incorporating aspects of sustainable food production, marine ecosystem conservation, and health benefits.
The Busan Techno Park’s Marine Bio Blue Food Center, located within the platform, will provide bespoke business consulting, R&D, and comprehensive testing services to local seafood companies.
Revitalization of Shinpyeong-Jangnim Industrial Complex
Originally established in 1990 as a leather industry hub, the Shinpyeong-Jangnim Industrial Complex has evolved to focus predominantly on seafood processing. The platform is equipped with various facilities to aid resident companies, including business meeting rooms, video conferencing facilities, and photography studios.
The platform is poised to drive innovative growth in Busan’s seafood industry, enhancing the competitiveness of the sector. Busan, home to over 400 seafood companies, is a national leader in seafood production, and the platform is aimed at addressing challenges faced by these mostly small and medium-sized businesses.
The city’s plan involves combining advanced technologies with Busan’s established seafood infrastructure. This initiative includes setting up high-end research equipment and launching collaborative projects and educational programs.
Addressing the need for more radioactivity testing facilities, the platform will establish a system for testing seafood products, ensuring their safety and quality.
The launch of the Busan Seafood Platform is a significant stride in advancing the seafood industry in Busan. This platform is expected to play a pivotal role in the successful operation of the upcoming Seafood Industry Cluster, scheduled for completion in 2027.
