Busan, South Korea – Busan Metropolitan City, in collaboration with the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, has announced the transformation of the iconic Yongdusan Park into the newly branded “Yongdusan Media Park.” This project, which officially opens in January next year, marks a significant step in the fusion of historical legacy with modern technological innovation, poised to redefine urban park experiences.

Yongdusan Media Park is set to feature an array of advanced technological attractions, including a large-scale media wall, projection mapping (media façade), and interactive AI character guide services via kiosks. The park integrates Research and Development (R&D) technology seamlessly into its offerings, providing visitors with an immersive and interactive experience.

The media façade at Yongdusan Park, spanning four strategic locations, will showcase Busan’s rich history and evolution in maritime and logistics through visually captivating projection mapping. One of the highlights, a vast media wall measuring 20 meters by 4 meters, will display various public promotional videos, realistic imagery, and engaging metaverse content.

The park’s innovative “MetaWorld” feature, a metaverse-based experience, invites visitors to explore different historical periods of Yongdusan Park, from prehistoric times to the modern era. This interactive platform not only entertains but educates, allowing visitors to collect virtual items and customize their experience.

In a nod to contemporary trends, the park also introduces an AI chatbot service, integrated with ChatGPT, offering voice-based interactive information on local attractions, culinary spots, and personality assessments like MBTI tests. Moreover, the park’s exclusive “Yongdusan AR” app, available on Google Play, introduces a unique augmented reality gaming experience, enhancing the park’s appeal.

Yongdusan Media Park stands as a vibrant emblem of Busan’s dedication to harnessing the power of technology, not merely as an enhancement of its urban landscape but as a strategic endeavor to redefine its role as a premier destination for night tourism. This initiative forms part of Busan’s comprehensive strategy aimed at revitalizing its historical downtown core, cementing its reputation as a city where modern technology intersects with rich cultural heritage.

Busan is reimagining the urban park experience, merging technological innovation with historical significance, and setting a new standard in the realm of tourism and urban leisure.
