The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education and the Dong-gu Office recently announced their partnership aimed at strengthening public education by establishing a high school credit system and improving English language skills. Gyeongnam Girls’ High School in Dong-gu will serve as the high school credit research school and Deresa Girls’ High School, Busan High School, and Geumsung High School will serve as the high school credit preparation schools.
The goal of the partnership is to shift high school education from a focus on entrance exams and competition to a more customized curriculum that supports student growth. In addition to the establishment of a credit-based curriculum classroom system, the two organizations will work to create a school space suitable for the flexible curriculum operation of the credit system.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education and the Dong-gu Office are also partnering to enhance English language skills by supporting programs such as native English instructor programs, English reading programs, and English camps during school vacations. Four schools in Dong-gu will receive support to improve their practical English skills, and an additional native English-speaking assistant teacher will be assigned to local elementary and middle schools.
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Ha Yun-soo said, “We will work with Dong-gu Office to meet the various needs of local schools and parents and achieve the development of education in Dong-gu.” The two organizations have previously signed an agreement to establish a village education community for mutual growth in the region.
This collaboration between the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education and the Dong-gu Office demonstrates a commitment to enhancing education in the region and providing students with the tools and resources they need to succeed.
